Coco peat and its uses


When we talk about gardening soil, Coco peat is one of the components which is easy to use, cheap and results in being very beneficial at some situations. Coco peat is a soil media which is very light in weight. As a growing medium similar to sphagnum peat, coco peat, also called coir or coir dust, provides an alternative to potting soil featuring high water retention, suitable aeration and anti fungal benefits.
Coco peat is basically a natural fiber extracted from the husk of coconut. It comes in the form of brick where it is grinded and highly compressed. For using it you have to first fill it with water so that it retains its original form.

USES:
  • ·         Used as an alternative in normal plants

In plants it is used as a media to soften the soil. Most likely sand soil is mixed with garden soil to provide softness to the soil but if you are lacking with sand soil, coco peat is a great alternative to be used. Coco peat is very light in weight thus it allows roots to grow very easily and does not interrupts in its growth.
  • ·         Great for Bonsai soil

A healthy Bonsai soil has a major characteristic which is its porous nature. Coco peat is an amazing element which helps bonsai soil in maintaining this character. Due to its light weight it helps roots in penetrating in the soil which further results in healthy bonsai.
  • ·         Best for seedlings

Seedlings are very sensitive and need lot of care for their growth. Coco peat due to its porous nature helps a lot in growth of seedling. Coco peat has water retention quality which further leads in nurturing growth of seedling, also the anti-fungal feature prevents fungus and provides an appropriate environment for the growth of seedling.
