FROM CUTTING TO BEAUTIFUL MONEY PLANT

    I think most of us have grown up watching one beautiful plant in our garden: MONEY PLANT. Money plant is one of the most common and a must have if we consider our gardens. Known for its good luck, it is believed that having a money plant at home brings benefits such as, happiness, wealth and prosperity. It is the best option to grow if you have new found interest in gardening as you can enjoy this plant for its fun and unusual trunk, lively green leaves, and relatively low-maintenance watering needs.

There are several ways by which the plant can be grown and can be taken care of. Some people grow money plant in indoors in water and some grow it in soil in their gardens. Here are some tips using which one can grow correctly and with ease a healthy money plant at home.

START WITH GROWING CUTTING

No doubt that there are endless methods by which one can grow its plant but when it comes to money plant the most effortless and straight forward way is to grow it from cutting.

For this method, you should remember certain points:

·   Use long cutting with at least 5-6 nodes (nodes are the places from where roots develop)

·   10 inch pot for the starting period is more than enough but you can go for a bigger container in future. Keep in mind that the pot should have more width, depth is not important for money plant.

·   The plant loves humidity so the type of soil should be such which can retain moisture in it for long duration, also keep it in full shade for some time for the same reasons.

HOW TO CARE

Once the plant is fully established you can move forward with its care. As I have told earlier that it is not all strenuous to care for money plant. You just need to follow some basic parameters;

• ·       APT SOIL and FUNGICIDE

The soil must be moisture friendly, for this you can prepare a mixture of 30% cocopeat (as it is good for holding moisture), 20% vermin compost, 25% sand and 25% garden soil. Mix all these elements with one teaspoonful of any fungicide.

• ·       PROPER WATERING

Although the plant likes humidity in general, you should let its soil dry out between watering. A good schedule for most environments is to water when the top 2-4 inches of soil are dry. Water thoroughly, until water flows out the drainage holes of the pot.

• ·       RIGHT EXPOSURE

When it comes to sunlight, the plant is not the lover of sun. Keep it in shade where it receives sunlight for 3 to 4 hours.

• ·       BE CAREFUL WITH THESE FACTORS

Over watering and too much sunlight are the most common causes of problems with money plants so one needs to take care of these. They can also suffer from scale insects, mealybugs, and aphids; for treating these use insect control, or horticultural oil spray or spray neem oil on your plant.
